Boat trips from La Maddalena town: choose your departure
Staying in La Maddalena does not mean returning to Palau for every island excursion. Some boats offer boarding on the island itself, but the departure option must be selected correctly. Compare the actual meeting point before comparing the route.
Updated
The short answer
For a full sailing day with lunch, start with the verified island-hopping option. For less time on the water, compare the four-hour RIB and confirm La Maddalena boarding in the calendar.

The departure port is a booking choice
A title containing La Maddalena can describe the destination, the national park or the actual departure town. These are different pieces of information. A boat that explores the archipelago may leave only from Palau, while a product with two boarding options may require you to select La Maddalena before choosing the date. Do not infer your boarding point from the product title or the first photograph.
Open the selected option and read the meeting instructions, map pin and check-in time. Check the return port as well: you need to know whether the vessel returns to the place where you boarded. If you already sleep on the island, direct boarding can remove a ferry crossing in each direction and simplify the morning. That practical saving can matter more than a small difference in the headline fare.
A verified longer sailing option
GetYourGuide product 424397, supplied by Route Master BV, describes an island-hopping sailing trip with two starting-location options, La Maddalena or Palau. At the 20 October 2026 check, the page advertised six and a half hours and a promotional starting price of €119 against €140. That observation is dated; the available date and selected boarding option must be checked again before payment.
The published format includes lunch, an aperitif, drinks, the skipper, fuel and national-park entry. Its route description includes the area of Spargi, Budelli and the natural pools, with the exact sequence subject to change. Treat the offering as a day aboard a yacht with swimming and island scenery, not as a guaranteed timetable of landings at every famous beach. The route panel explicitly says it is for reference.
A shorter RIB alternative
The existing catalogue also includes GetYourGuide product 459685, a four-hour RIB excursion offered from Palau or La Maddalena. It appears in the current primary boat selection. A shorter trip may suit travellers who want an afternoon in town or do not want a full sailing day. Confirm which island departure is bookable on your date rather than assuming both operate at every start time.
A RIB has a different ride and boarding arrangement from a yacht. Ask about the seating, protection from spray, luggage space and ladder before choosing for children or anyone with limited mobility. Four hours is still a substantial water-based activity. The shorter duration does not guarantee calmer seas, more shade or a bathroom, and the exact vessel’s facilities need to be stated by the operator.

Compare the useful parts of the day
For the sailing product, the listed food includes pasta, bread, bruschetta, sausage and cheese, with wine, beer, water and other drinks in the published inclusions. Dietary needs deserve a question before booking. Do not assume that removing one ingredient or providing a separate meal is possible simply because lunch is included. Ask what happens for children as well.
For either format, compare the maximum number of guests, the time at anchor and whether you reach shore by swimming, tender or a landing. Bringing a mask is different from having snorkelling equipment included; check the actual list. If a beach visit is essential, ask how access works and whether it remains possible when the day’s route changes. The boat name alone does not answer those questions.
Park rules override attractive wording
The protected Spiaggia Rosa on Budelli is not a normal swimming stop. The national park prohibits access to the pink sand, bathing and navigation or anchoring in the restricted area. The island-hopping listing’s wording about walking at the pink beach is too loose to use as an access promise. Plan for an authorised view and follow the skipper’s current instructions and the marked restrictions.
The same care applies to Cala Coticcio. A coastal view or permitted offshore stop is not the guided land visit. Do not choose an island cruise expecting it to bypass the authorised-guide requirement for the trail. Compare the itinerary for the experience you want, while accepting that park permissions determine what a boat can actually do. A photograph of an empty beach is not permission to land there.
Read fees as separate questions
The verified sailing page lists national-park entry among the included services. La Maddalena’s municipal landing contribution is a different charge, and the final listing or provider should say how it is handled. Ask whether any local payment remains due and how it is collected, rather than assuming that the words national park cover every possible fee.
The municipal regulation linked by Delcomar has seasonal rates and a distinct summer rate for minor-island landings. Those depend on date and destination and should not be copied indiscriminately onto every excursion. Check the actual inclusion before boarding and keep any requested payment method ready. A fee added locally can change which of two apparently similar prices is the better match for your budget.
If you are arriving from Palau
The regular ferry reaches La Maddalena town in roughly fifteen to twenty minutes. That is the crossing time, not the whole transfer. Allow for buying tickets, waiting, disembarking and walking to the meeting point. On a vehicle trip, unloading and finding a parking place can add another step. Use the boat voucher to establish where to finish the journey.
For a town departure without another island road trip, a car on the ferry may add cost without helping the boarding. For an afternoon on Caprera or a beach circuit afterwards, it can be useful. Decide on the complete day rather than taking the car out of habit. Check the return ferry’s actual timetable if you must be back on Sardinia that evening.
Wind changes routes, not just departures
The skipper chooses stops according to conditions and permissions. A route can change while the excursion still operates, so a windy forecast does not automatically create a cancellation or refund. The verified sailing listing even warns that the tour can run in rain or strong wind. Read that statement and the cancellation terms carefully before deciding whether its flexibility matches your expectations.
If you are unsure about motion sickness or exposed swimming stops, ask what the operator does when conditions are uncomfortable. Do not treat a town forecast as a complete marine assessment. Keep the booking contact details reachable so any instruction about time or boarding reaches you. An early holiday booking day leaves more room for a possible rearrangement than the last afternoon before departure.
Suitability and the final decision
The sailing listing publishes restrictions involving children, mobility, age and weight. Check the current panel and ask about your party before buying if anyone may fall outside it. Do not compare only the price per adult and discover the conditions afterwards. A small-group trip is not automatically suited to every child or every traveller who can use a larger passenger vessel.
Before payment, write down five things: boarding town, exact meeting point, return port, included food and fees, and the selected cancellation terms. The checked sailing page advertised free cancellation up to twenty-four hours in advance, but your own confirmation governs. Choose direct island boarding because it fits your location, then choose the boat whose format and conditions fit the people travelling.
A bay on La Maddalena: coastal scenery is distinct from the town boarding point.
Budelli’s natural pools are a route possibility, subject to wind and park permissions.

Questions that shape your trip
Practical answers before you choose a route or book an activity.
My hotel is on La Maddalena: must I cross to Palau for the boat tour?
Boats depart from both Palau and La Maddalena. The four-hour RIB outing offers port-specific options, so select the La Maddalena departure and check its meeting pin. A title naming both ports does not mean the same reservation allows boarding at either dock.
